Lightning Blade was founded in 2001 in a garage. The business was created to fill a void in the Ottawa area for quality skate sharpening for teams and large groups. The founders were coaching minor hockey and noticing that their players were always waiting until game time to decide that their skates needed sharpening. Then of course the arena sharpener was not there or the quality was poor.
The answer, free pick up and delivery of team sets of skates. The skates would be picked up after a game or practice and returned before the next ice time. All at the same price they would pay at their local sharpener.
The result, players were ready to go and their skates were sharpened to their preference. The service not only covered minor hockey teams, but also Junior “A” teams as well as schools that provided skates for their students.
The business evolved into a true Pro Shop in a hockey training centre and since 2004 has operated at various arenas throughout the Ottawa area.
Lightning Blade continues to offer free pick up and delivery for all of its services.
Lightning Blade has been very involved in giving back to the community. Fundraisers have been held for CHEO as well as Rogers House.
Lightning Blade has donated over 1000 free skate sharpenings to Child and Youth Friendly Ottawa for its SK8 4 Kids skate collection program.
Several area minor hockey associations, community associations and schools have been given merchandise, free sharpening cards as well as merchandise discount cards.
